2008 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

West 7 - Atlantic 4

GOALS GALORE AS WEST BEATS ATLANTIC

London, ON – Team Atlantic scored two quick goals in the first period, but Team West controlled the rest of the game en route to a 7-4 win on Sunday afternoon at John Labatt Centre at the 2008 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Scott Glennie (Winnipeg, MB/Brandon, WHL) had two goals and two assists to lead Team West. Jimmy Bubnick (Saskatoon, SK/Kamloops, WHL) was also a force, as he scored two goals and had an assist.

Mason Wilgosh (East St. Paul, MB/Tri-City, WHL), Brayden Schenn (Saskatoon, SK/Brandon, WHL) and James Henry (Winnipeg, MB/Vancouver, WHL) also scored for Team West. Schenn also had two helpers.

Team Atlantic opened the scoring just 14 seconds into the game. Brandon Gormley (Murray River, PEI/Notre Dame, SMAAHL) snapped a shot from the point, which beat Team West goaltender Mathew Krahn (Winnipeg, MB/Winnipeg Wild, midget AAA). Just over two minutes later, Devon MacAusland (Moncton, NB/Moncton, QMJHL) scored his first goal of the tournament on a hard shot from the slot.

But West responded, as Bubnick, Wilgosh, Glennie and Schenn scored during a 12-minute span in the first for a 4-2 lead.

Henry scored 31 seconds into the second period, but Atlantic answered back at 5:07 on a goal by Steven Anthony (Halifax, NS/Saint John, QMJHL) that made it 5-3. Bubnick added his second of the game at 12:34 of the second and West led 6-3 after two.

The two teams exchanged goals in the third, with Stephen Walker (Mount Uniacke, NS/Cole Harbour, NSMMHL) scoring for Atlantic and Glennie getting his second of the game for West into an empty net with seven seconds remaining.

Team West, which moved to 2-0, outshot Team Atlantic 35-27. Atlantic is now 0-2.
