BUDAPEST, Hungary – Hockey Canada has announced that Tyler Toffoli (Scarborough, Ont./Calgary, NHL) will wear the ‘C’ for Canada’s National Men’s Team at the 2023 IIHF World Championship in Tampere, Finland, and Riga, Latvia.

Lawson Crouse (Mount Brydges, Ont./Arizona, NHL), Scott Laughton (Oakville, Ont./Philadelphia, NHL), Milan Lucic (Vancouver, B.C./Calgary, NHL) and MacKenzie Weegar (Nepean, Ont./Calgary, NHL) will serve alongside Toffoli as alternate captains.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to play for Canada at the world championship, and it is an honour to be named captain on a team with so many great players,” Toffoli said. “Lawson, Scott, Milan and MacKenzie are excellent leaders on and off the ice, and I look forward to serving on the leadership group with them. Our entire team is excited to wear the Maple Leaf, and we will represent the country with pride as we compete for a gold medal.”

Canada’s National Men’s Team announced its roster on May 5, and will kick off the 2023 IIHF World Championship on May 12 against the host Latvians at 1:20 p.m. ET/10:20 a.m. PT. It will also take on Slovenia, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Norway and Czechia in the preliminary round before the tournament concludes with the medal games on May 28.
