CALGARY, Alberta – The Hockey Canada Foundation has announced a new national partnership with TacoTime with proceeds to benefit one of its premier programs, the Assist Fund.
The Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund was created in response to the many families experiencing financial challenges. The goal is to help young Canadians access hockey and play the game they love. It provides up to $500 per player in registration fee subsidies to approved applicants who are registered with a Hockey Canada-sanctioned association.
On National Taco Day, Tuesday, Oct. 6, TacoTime will donate 10 cents from every taco sold in Canada to the Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund, guaranteeing a contribution of $25,000.
“Hockey brings about a sense of belonging, friendship and being part of a team that every kid in Canada should have an opportunity to experience,” said Dean McIntosh, senior vice-president of strategic partnerships and community impact with Hockey Canada. “TacoTime’s generous $25,000 contribution to the Assist Fund will help more youth from coast to coast to coast experience those benefits when they step onto the ice, build lasting memories and fall in love with the game. On National Taco Day, we encourage all Canadians to enjoy a taco and help open the door to hockey for kids to enjoy.”
For the 2026-27 season, the Assist Fund will provide $1.3 million in assists to kids across Canada to ensure they are able to access hockey in their communities.
“At TacoTime, we know that some of life’s best moments happen around the dinner table and at the hockey rink,” said Wendy Derzai, senior vice-president of TacoTime Canada with the MTY Food Group. “Canadian families are constantly balancing work, school and activities, and they deserve meals that are fresh, satisfying and made to fit their busy lives. That’s why we’re proud to help Fuel Every Shift while giving back through our new partnership with the Hockey Canada Foundation. On National Taco Day, Canadians can enjoy their favourite tacos knowing they’re also helping more kids get in the game—because when it’s game time, it’s TacoTime.”
