CR Joliette Action (EAST) 4 - Streetsville Derbys (HOST) 1 Round Robin By HockeyCanada.ca The Derbys winning streak has come to an end. Since the Derbys were already assured of the number 1 seed going into Saturday’s final they rested several of their top players including goaltender David Wilson. As a result, the Derbys were punchless and did not show the intensity fans at the RBC Royal Bank Cup have been accustomed to. L’Action de Joliette who knew they were in a must win situation took full advantage. After dropping the first two games of the tournament, Joliette could not afford to lose a third straight and they came out flying. Their desperation paid off as l’Action struck early. With lots of traffic in front of Tyler Gordon, Jean-Philippe Beaulieu found a shooting lane and beat the goaltender glove side. Joliette who has had a hard time scoring goals, lost one of their most important players late in the first period when their top scorer Bobby Mazerolle, received a game misconduct for hitting from behind. However, Joliette were still able to pressure the Derbys defencemen and took a two nothing lead early in the second when Jonathan Dick tipped in a point shot from David Poulin that fooled Gordon. Dick then notched his second of the game after a nice move at the blueline to beat the lone defender and broke free on Gordon beating him five-hole. Yohan Perreault also added a goal for Joliette mid way through the third. Jason Gorrie scored Streetsville’s lone goal of the game after he was left alone in front of Steve Hartley and he made no mistake going to his backhand to beat the goaltender. With the win, Joliette joins Yorkton and Fort William with a 1-2 record. PLAYERS OF THE GAME: JOLIETTE: Jonathan Dick GAME NOTES: Joliette outshot Streetsville 41-25 … Streetsville has been outshot in three of its four games … Despite the win, Joliette still finds themselves in a must win situation on Thursday vs. Brunaby. A loss would knock them out of the semi-finals |
